Urban Homesteading
Join us on our journey of exploration, experimentation, and a pinch of exasperation as we share our experiences building a working urban homestead in the Great Basin High Desert.

Regenerative farming focuses on soil health, working with the natural ecosystem rather than ignoring or exploiting it. Organic farming methods are only the beginning of our journey to a healthier life and a better world for future generations.
When we “go organic,” we stop doing damage to the soil. Without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, the soil can begin to heal.
When we focus on Regeneration, we can speed that healing.
Here in the Great Basin High Desert, it’s a challenge. When we began our journey, we weren’t sure if we were Regenerating the overgrazed desert or Generating something other than desert. (Spoiler alert: we’re still not sure.)
The urban/suburban setting is yet another challenge. As the population grows and city developers encroach on us out here, we’re faced with an uncertain future. Our goal is to duplicate everything we have on this one acre and expand on a larger property.
We keep hearing “it can’t be done in the desert,” but we’re already doing it.
Come along for the ride… Let’s see how it grows!
